WHAT WE DO
Our broad range of injection molding capabilities can support a wide range of customer volume demands and design types. Our injection molding capabilities include single and double-shot injection molding, in-mold decorating, overmolding, insert molding and rapid prototyping. Our injection molding machines range from 20 to 800 tons, and we can provide a wide range of materials and specialty finishes, including screen printing, pad printing, laser etching, spray painting, electroplating and rubber grip surfaces. Our factories are ISO 9000 certified, and many are also QS9000 or TS16949 certified as well.
Our In Mold Decoration (IMD) solutions combine the high quality printing
capabilities of PC foil and the benefits of 3D plastic injection. In Mold Decoration designs allow a large variety of printed colors, textures and finishes all decorated on second surface of the foil, while providing superior reliability, life time abrasion and environmental resistance.
Nelson-Miller offers a variety of backlighting solutions to fit your unique requirements. Whether you’re looking to backlight a membrane switch, logo on a graphic overlay, keypad or full assembly, we offer a variety of backlighting solutions that will bring your final product to the market “in the best light.”
At Nelson-Miller, we specialize in manufacturing membrane switch solutions with superior reliability and stringent cosmetic requirements. We are proud to be industry leaders in producing membrane switches that meet or exceed our customers’ expectations. Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Los Angeles supports a variety of processes to bring you the best custom
membrane switches in the market today. Some of the processes include: screen and digital printing; color matching; die cutting and laser fabrication; laminating processes; and clean-room membrane switch assembly, as well as environmental and life cycle testing.
Flex membrane switches are a close relative of the PCB membrane switch. Flex membrane switches use thin dielectric materials in place of the fiber material inner layer. One advantage of this technology is the ability to die cut parts which reduces cost on parts and tooling. Flex membrane switches require a support panel similar to that of a silver circuit membrane switch.
Keypads provide an excellent interface to your product. Widely used in consumer, defense, aerospace, and industrial electronic products, keypads provide tactile response and environmental resistance, and should be a consideration in designing your next machine interface project.
Nelson-Miller’s eN-touch™ brand of touch screen solutions allows us to be a full-service touch screen solutions provider that specializes in
custom touch screens, touch screen overlays, and other touch screen components. Touch screens
offered by Nelson-Miller can be optimized for
different operating characteristics and environments. Each touch screen is custom built using innovative touch screen technology to suit your unique application requirements.
Thanks to many years of experience in the interface industry, Nelson-Miller is able provide you with a complete one-stop-shop solution for modules and value-added assemblies.
Nelson-Miller was founded in 1937, and
originally supplied simple metal dials to the aerospace industry. Over time, our
capabilities grew and today we offer the most extensive metal and plastic nameplate processing capabilities in the industry. Some of our capabilities include: multi-color metal anodizing, serializing and UID bar-coding, etch and fill, as well as laser etching; several printing options include screen and digital printing; and polyurethane domed
MORE ABOUT NELSON-MILLER
Nelson-Miller started nearly 80 years ago here in Los Angeles when two brothers named Miller decided to form Miller Dial. The
company started by making luminescent dials for the thriving, local aerospace industry. Their reputation grew, and additional customers asked for both dials and nameplates. About 10 years later, in 1946, Fred Nelson left Miller and formed a company of his own. This company became Nelson Nameplate. He opened a 1000 square foot facility and started making nameplates for various customers throughout the world. Years passed, the world discovered plastic and we realized we could print conductive lines on these plastics, and then soon after came the membrane switch. Both Nelson and Miller provided these switches to many industries across the country and throughout the world. In 2011, the two companies decided we could be more effective as partners and merged forming Nelson-Miller.
We have a long history of working with our local government and environmental agencies to provide a safe and socially responsible workplace and workforce. In 2003, we were recognized by the EPA with the Agency’s Environment Award of Outstanding Achievement. The sitting Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, signed legislation at our facility implementing a First-in-the-Nation Green Chemistry Program. We have maintained a strong partnership with FOLAR (Friends of the Los Angeles River) and help with their cleanup efforts each year. This year we have sent a notification to our customers of our intent to move away from solvent printing and convert as much of our internal printing to Digital or UV inks. We would like to thank our customers for their help with this changeover as they recognize this is just the right thing to do for our environment!
As time passes, the needs of our customers change and our focus has changed as well. At one time we provided dials, then nameplates, then switches; today we provide solutions. For some customers, our original products are still exactly what they need, but for others they now feel a touchscreen is the best way to use their machine. For others, they may need an injection molded case with an integrated
In-Mold Label. Today Nelson-Miller offers these things and many others. This website is more of a “catalog of ideas” showing our major product offerings. However, the main purpose for this, is to reintroduce Nelson-Miller as a company. We are proud of our history, but we are no longer “the nameplate company” but instead a company here to help you in any way we can. If you have not had one of our sales professionals at your facility in some time, we would love a chance to come in and show you some of the innovative solutions we have provided the last few years. We are confident you will be both surprised and impressed by the New Nelson-Miller!
