WHAT ARE PLASTIC KEYPADS?

Plastic keypads support design flexibility, and with our latest thin profile key caps, we can provide low profile options with a wide option of cosmetic finishes including, vacuum metallization (VM), non-conductive vacuum metallization (NCVM), laser etching, spray coatings, high abrasion resistance, bridgeless solutions, color matching, and highly resistive UV coatings. Plastic light guides, including twin shot to eliminate light bleed, are available as a standalone component or as part of a plastic keypad switch assembly.

PLASTIC KEYPAD FEATURES

The keypad solution enables multiple colors to be printed or spayed onto the plastic. Metal cosmetic options include traditional chrome plating, vacuum metallization (including non-conductive options), textures, graphics and enhanced backlighting effects.  Decoration can be either on the first or second surface, depending on your cosmetic and abrasion resistance requirements. This can be combined with thin PC key-top and IMD key-tops to meet your keypad switch design needs.

By incorporating rubber with a plastic keypad, the solution provides the blend benefits of a hard plastic surface with the superior flexibility and sealing properties of a silicone key mat. This interface solution supports a large variety of colors and textures, with options for embossed artwork and finishing. It provides cost effective and advanced decoration to enhance the aesthetics of the customer's device.

BACKLIGHTING YOUR KEYPAD APPLICATION

If you would like to backlight your application, the construction would incorporate either light guides or LEDs for uniform lighting.  Other options for backlighting are fiber optic backlighting and EL backlighting.  Depending on the requirements of your application such as thickness preference, shape, environmental exposure, and other unique specifications, the backlighting options would vary and be selected specifically to fit the function of your device.  Using the latest LED powered lighting can reduce cost and reduce power used by a device.  Since many devices today are portable, this backlighting solution is more relevant than ever.

A variety of applications that use backlighting solutions are: remote controls, laboratory equipment, airplane dashboards, medical devices in dimly lit operating rooms, consumer appliances, such as coffee makers and microwaves, laptop keyboards, and many other applications that we all come in contact with daily or sporadically.
