WHAT ARE 4-WIRE RESISTIVE TOUCH SCREENS?

Not only is four-wire resistive technology the easiest to understand, but it’s also the easiest to design and manufacture. Using both the upper and lower layers of the touchscreen “sandwich” to determine the X and Y coordinates, 4-wire resistive touch screens are the preferred solution for a variety of low-cost applications.

Similar to how other resistive touch screens operate, 4-wire touch screens react when pressure from touch is applied to the top layer. From here, the pressure is deflected and makes contact with the bottom layer which results in a voltage drop. This change is then detected by the 4-wire controller which alternates the voltage signal between the top and bottom layer. In doing so, the X and Y coordinates of the user’s touch are computed.
