Similar to the 4-wire touch screen technology, 5-wire resistive touch screens consist of a conductive glass bottom layer and conductive top film layer. Although the two are very similar, the core difference between the two is, in the 5-wire construction, all the electrodes are on the bottom layer and the top layer acts as a voltage-measuring probe. Due to this unique structure, 5-wire resistive touch screens may still work properly even if the top layer is slightly scratched or damaged by environmental damage and daily wear and tear.
